You’ve prepared. Now enrich!
Love is a decision…a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. [Love] isn't a feeling, it is a practice.
—Erich Fromm
Life gets busy, and maintaining the disciplines that lead to a fulfilling life together takes intention and practice. The one-year mark in marriage is a great time to pause and reflect on how your preparation for marriage has served you as you continue to get used to being married! Now that you’re back into the rhythms of life, take the time to ask each other: how are we doing?
Many couples take time on their first anniversary to watch videos of their wedding, look at pictures, or re-read their vows. Here are some questions for you to think about as well:
Have we met the short-term goals that we set during the premarital process? What new goals do we have? (or…what were those goals again?!)
Has our physical or emotional intimacy shifted since we got married?
Are we making the time to do at least one date a week together not focused on logistics?
How have we each been positively influenced by the other since our marriage?
Are there fights or conflict we have repressed that may need to be aired, explored and/or solved?
How are we handling stress together?
As a thank you for trusting me in your pre-marital process, please enjoy 50% off one couples’ tune-up session ($225 $112.50) to explore these questions above, or whatever else you’d like to address.
